Sirona Cares is a San Francisco based 501(c)3 non-profit. Our mission is to develop sustainable communities. We work internationally, specifically in Haiti, assisting communities as they develop a sustainable economic base through Jatropha farming (for fuel), and we support the endeavors of those who care for and educate children. We work domestically to support education and care for children here, in California.
Our sister company, Sirona Fuels, is a San Francisco based biofuel company with a plant operating in Oakland. The Oakland facility can refine Jatropha oil, and can recycle waste kitchen oil into biodiesel. We are using the latter process to generate funds for public schools and organizations focused on care for/education of children.
Sirona collects oil donated by restaurants and refines it into fuel, and 20% of the fuel price is donated to public schools and local programs focused on children in the form of quarterly grants. The higher the price of fuel goes, the more funding will go to schools. We estimate that there is potentially $4 million of funding possible through this program. Participation is free to schools and businesses. Sirona Fuels will pick-up and recycle the oil for free, saving businesses who currently pay to dispose of this oil money. Schools can increase the amount of funding available to them by encouraging local businesses to participate.
From it's inception it was the goal of the Sirona team to create positive, sustainable change for people, improve the environment by lowering carbon emissions and create green jobs here as well as abroad. Education is a critical cornerstone for sustainable change, and the Sirona Cares for Schools program demonstrates our united mission, and furthers our shared goals and vision.
